The Floral Corso
Organized by the Mladost Folklore Ensemble, the Floral Corso is held in Samobor. The tradition of holding this event dates back to 1956, when the event was held for the first time. "Wanting to revive this beautiful event, we invited primary schools and kindergartens in Samobor to cooperate. The preparation program and the realization itself are designed so that the children, participants in the activity, develop their artistic creativity because they made the costume parts themselves with the help of teachers and parents. Through intensive practice of songs and dance steps, their musical and dance activity was significantly enriched, through which they got to know part of the rich traditional culture of our people. This way of working contributes to the psychophysical development of children at an earlier age, strengthening their motor skills, and developing their hearing. In the first year, we already had 330 small participants in the procession who filled King Tomislav Square from three directions and performed a synchronized ten-minute program composed of children's songs and dances from our heritage for over 2,000 visitors. Now twice as many performers are participating in the Floral Corso" - speaks the manager of the Mladost Folklore Ensemble, Ivančica Pogrmilović.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZER
The Mladost Folklore Ensemble has been active in Samobor continuously since 1972, and grew out of the Folklore Group of KUD Iskrice at Samobor Primary School. Several hundred dancers-singers and musicians passed through the ensemble, and all those years the ensemble had a number of notable performances in the country and abroad. The ensemble works with children from the earliest age, from the kindergarten playground. At rehearsals, basic cultural values and knowledge are inculcated. The goal is not only for members to come and learn the steps of a dance, but also to know where that dance comes from, how it was created, and the like. Learning and socializing is important, because folklore is a group activity, so children must learn to share, support each other, and learn to compromise.
