Monument of Ivica Sudnik

One of the greatest Samobor residents in the 20th century and a versatile cultural professional.

Monument of Ivica Sudnik

Although the fact that in the 92 years of his life he travelled all around the world and had a number of various interests, he never thought Samobor was too small and he always tried to make it bigger, better, more interesting. As a photography enthusiast he did a great favour to the world of art by introducing Tošo Dabac into the magical world of photography and made a contribution to his works. As a sports enthusiast he worked on the promotion of sports culture in Croatia; he was one of the pioneers of mountaineering, passionate collector, meticulous clock maker and finally, one of the founders and long-time director of the Samobor museum. He left thousands of articles, historical accounts, and records from the history of town, tourism, and sports. He also made a large number of photos showing natural wonders and cultural values of Samobor which he exhibited at home and abroad. But on top of it all and most of all he was the citizen of Samobor.

In 2007 the town decided to pay him respect by awarding him a special honour and placing a monument in front of “his” museum, made by an academic sculptor Petar Ujević. In that way Sudnik found himself among the great people such as Livadić, Vraz and Racin whose busts adorn the park near the Samobor museum.
