Kočo Racin

Macedonian poet. His first collection of songs "Beli mugri" was printed in Samobor.

Kočo Racin

As Matoš said that Samobor is “the most Croatian of all Croatian towns”, it is not so well known that Samobor is also the most Macedonian of all Croatian towns. The Macedonian writer Kočo Racin printed his collection of poems in Samobor in 1939 called “Beli mugri” (White daybreaks). The collection was printed illegally in the Špuler printing office, contains 23 poems and is the major work of Macedonian poetry and the starting point of Macedonian literature.

original collection is kept in the Samobor museum and every year, marking the anniversary of the publication, a big delegation of Macedonians arrive to Samobor to pay respect to their great writer. For that occasion the wreaths are placed beneath the poet’s bust in front of the Samobor museum and there is a short programme that continues inside the museum.
